Here is another suggestion for telepresence admins who, out of either necessity or preference, work within the confines of the “walled garden”.
The app is called goSerial; a serial console program for Mac OSX. What I like about this over other serial console apps (like ZTerm) is that it actually looks & feels like a Mac app, with a nice graphical interface like you expect from Apple software, lots of pull-downs and intuitive menus.
You of course will need a USB-to-Serial adapter cord for connecting to 9-pin serial ports on network hardware. One can be found cheaply online by simply searching the internet for “usb serial adapter”. If you need one promptly, they can be had for a premium at your local electronics store. Once an adapter of your choice is connected, launch the software and select your USB adapter from the Serial Port pull-down list. Choose the rest of your settings appropriate to the device in which you are connecting (Speed, Data Bits, Parity, Stop Bits, etc…), click OK and success!
Mac users attending Compass telepresence classes will find this little app very helpful. Enjoy!
goSerial is a donation funded app; free to download and use from the following link – http://www.furrysoft.de/?page=goserial
